The policy of the school with regard to illness
is:

-
Home is the best place for children who are
feeling ill;
-
A child should not return to school following
sickness or diarrhoea until at least 24 hours have passed without any
incidence;
-
Children should not bring medication into school
to administer to themselves; special arrangements may be made regarding
Asthma sufferers and their inhalers;
-
Parents/guardians or a nominated adult, may bring
medicines into school and administer them to a child (e.g. when a child is
recovering).
Staff at the school should not administer
medicines: in case of great difficulty please speak to the Head Teacher.
Parents may be required to sign a permission form if the Head/Deputy are to
administer medicines on behalf of the parents/guardians.
In order to fulfil the statutory obligation to accurately record absences
and unauthorised absences throughout the school and as stated in the
"Home/School Agreement", we would be grateful if all parents could follow
the procedure indicated below:
1.) A phone call before 9.30 a.m. advising the school of the child's absence
at the beginning of an absence;
2.) A letter from a parent/guardian when the child returns to school after
an absence through illness. If a letter is not received the child's absence
must be recorded as "unauthorised" and this fact must be mentioned in the
child's annual report and recorded officially as "unauthorised".
A child, who arrives after the register has been called, will be recorded as
late.
Essex County Council allows the Head Teacher to
authorise up to 20 sessions (10 days) absence from school during any
academic year. Any absences over this amount will be regarded as
unauthorised.
It is school policy not to authorise
any absences during the month of May when the children in school will be
undertaking assessment tasks or tests.
